TOPSoccer Program
The PPSC TOPSOCCER program provides a soccer experience for the player with developmental, physical and/or cognitive disabilities. The program runs during the months of September and October on Saturdays. This year we will be streamlining the program to best meet the needs of our players ages 5 and up. We will have the younger group play for the first hour and the older group for the second hour. The TOPSOCCER program will be following the PPSC recreational SAFE Program curriculum this season:
- A S.A.F.E. approach to learning the game:
- Soccer (the best teacher of the game is the game itself!)
- Attitude (character building and character revealing!)
- Fun (the most important ingredient!)
- Education (tell me – “I forgot”, show me – “I remember”, involve me – “I understand”)
This interactive program provides an opportunity for our players to engage in healthy physical activity, positive/appropriate social peer interactions and reinforces communication and language skills. Adult volunteers and coaches will adapt and modify the activities to meet each individual players needs. We also provide youth volunteers ( buddies) for all our players. The player-buddy relationship is a special and unique experience for all the participants.
This year to meet appropriate NJYS insurance regulations all our players will need to register prior to the program either via the PPSC website or by mailing in the attached form. Registration for this program will not close out. Buddies may register online/mail as well. The $10 player fee is to cover NJYS insurance. This program is volunteer run and financially sponsored through donations.
TOP Soccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a recreational based program to provide youth with developmental, cognitive and/or physical disabilities the opportunity to play soccer is a safe and enriched environment. This program is for ages 5 and up. For more information, please contact Kurt Bergen or Deb Conklin
Volunteer to be a BUDDY
Top soccer provides the physically and/or developmentally challenged child the opportunity to learn the basic skills of soccer. To encourage each child to participate to the best of their ability, a buddy is assigned to lend a helping hand, guide and encourage their player. Duties of a buddy may include teaching basic ball skills, helping a child move safety on the field, improving social skills, providing support for balance and supervising the general safety of our players.
